Travel Tuesday: Sunsets in Santorini

The iconic white buildings and blue domes of Santorini make it an idyllic summer destination. With beaches, cliff top towns, wine and sunshine it’s the perfect sun filled getaway. We booked this holiday with Thomson and stayed at the Marillia Village.

Parts of the island can be very busy, as it’s a popular Greek Island destination, but when you escape the crowds the views are beautiful, and the sunsets are legendary. We could hardly move around the island without being told we absolutely must enjoy a cocktail and a sunset overlooking the Aegean Sea and so we hopped on a coach trip from our hotel to witness this spectacle. Of course, bars and restaurants in the area know you’re going to settle in for the night and therefore charge a premium for their drinks, but if you’re prepared for it then it’s a great place to enjoy fantastic views.

Staying at the Marillia Village was perfect for us. As it is set up in small apartments rather than one big hotel block, you feel like you’re exploring a little independently whilst also enjoying the comforts of a hotel. The pool bar provided great value snacks and hot food, and the pool itself was always quiet and covered in sunshine. I can definitely recommend buying a Greek Salad from theΒ  The grounds of Marillia Village are covered in beautiful trees and flowers meaning that despite the road nearby, you barely even notice it.

In the local area of Perivolos there area few other hotels, a collection of tavernas along the beach front and a couple of shops selling basic groceries and souveniers. To me this is perfect. You can eat, drink and be merry if you want but you can also enjoy the beautiful scenery and open spaces that surround this part of Santorini. This holiday was absolutely perfect for a relaxing week and I’d love to visit this beautiful island again soon!

  1. Lovely post πŸ™‚ The last photo is my favorite and makes me miss summer, Greece, the ultramarine blue Mediterranean, and sitting in a cool, breezy spot during a hot, sunny day… I’ve visited Santorini once – beautiful place- but it was only a day trip so I didn’t get to see that amazing sunset…
